Minor Loss Calculations

This tool was developed to calculate head losses through valves and fittings in terms of the velocity head by using the applicable resistance coefficient K values.

Notes :

  1. The typical K values are based on water flows for complete turbulence in schedule 40 pipe sizes up to and including 24". For steel line size larger than 24", it is suggested that the 24" value be used. For items that are not listed, K values should be defined by users using "Custom" option in the drop-down menu.
  2. It should be noted that there is considerable variation in published values of resistent coefficient K for different valves and fittings. If available, K values provided by manufacturer should be used.
